A huge tricycle was spotted in a large number of beach areas on the North Ireland coast, sparking an investigation.
The bright blue tricycle is believed to be from a British family who lives in County Cork, but officials in the town said the family did not live there.
They said the tricycle could have travelled about 10 miles from its source, possibly to a family home or farm.
They added the family had left it on the beach to get away from the sun.
The area is believed not to be as popular as other areas of the county due to the recent flooding.
A spokesman for North Dublin Garda Station said it was “very likely” that the tricycles were owned by a member of the public.
“This would be the first time that a giant tricycle has been seen on North Dublin beach in quite some time,” he said.
Irish Examiner: ‘Giant tricyclist’ found on Ireland’s beaches article An investigation has been launched after a huge tricycling bike was spotted on Ireland and in the UK, prompting the authorities in County Kildare to search for the rider.
The Irish Times reported that a huge white and black tricycle had been spotted on North Cork beach, about 1km south of Clonakilty in County Tyrone.
The white and blue bike had been found on Friday evening, about a half-mile south of the coast.
It was reported to have “nearly disappeared” as the sun set on the area, and it was thought to have travelled from its original location on the west coast of Ireland to the UK.
It was not clear how the cyclist could have got to the beach from Ireland, but it could have been an organised tourist group who were travelling between different locations in the area.
The Irish Government has said it is investigating the matter and urged the public to report sightings.
The UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said the bike could have “likely travelled” to the Isle of Skye, but that it had not been seen before.
It added that it was too early to say if the rider was alive or dead.
The US National Park Service tweeted that it is working with the UK Government to help with the investigation.
The bicycle was spotted by a couple on a “quiet beach” near the village of Laois, County Tyrones.
The bike was described as a giant blue tricycler and it is believed the couple was not the intended owner.
A number of people have reported sightings of the bike on Irish beaches, but the Irish Coast Guard said there was “no evidence of an imminent threat” to its safety.
A similar “trolley” was spotted off the coast of the British Isles in October.
